Creativity

My Favourite Tools

Moleskine notebooks | there’s pretty much Classic* ($13 for one) or Cahier* ($12 for 3)

Black pens | Sakura Pigma Micron* or UniPin Fine Line* pens work perfectly over watercolour and acrylic paint

Acrylic paints Golden Fluid Acrylics (expensive) – my fave is the Iridescent Gold Deep*, Liquitex (mid range) – I love their Mars Black* and Titanium White*, Americana (cheap)

Watercolours Kuretake Gansai Tambi* has the most beautiful colours for those who don’t like mixing colours (me). They are super vivid and glide on paper beautifully. Also, the palette includes gold, copper, and pearl.

Stamp ink | StazOn* stamp ink has no long drying time and looks really great over photos or paint (even watercolours)

Fun | Liquitex Acrylic Ink* is super fun for making splashes on your page, Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks* are a thinner version of the fun (my ULTIMATE is the gold ink*)

Get Messy | art journal community

Caylee Grey Courses | how could I not include these :)

Rachel Denbow – 52 Weeks of Art Journaling

Kara Haupt’s art journaling classes

I have the full Adobe Creative Cloud* because I use at least three of the applications every single day (Photoshop, Bridge, and Premiere Pro), and the others (InDesign and Illustrator) at least once weekly. I know that it is an investment ($49.99 pm), so if you’re still learning, I recommend starting with Photoshop and then going on to the other ones.

Adobe Photoshop CC* for photo editing, blog graphics, and pretty much everything in my life ($9.99 pm including Lightroom)

Adobe Bridge* for photo organisation (free!)

Adobe InDesign* for making PDFs for class workbooks, free downloadables, and printables ($19.99 pm)

Adobe Illustrator* for logos ($19.99 pm)

Adobe Premiere Pro* for video editing ($19.99 pm)

(If you’re a teacher or a student, you get 60% off Creative Cloud plans*)

Hello Lovely | Olya from Paint Paper Studio

The things Olya creates and shares are so bright, but they are truly dull compared to her colourful personality. Mrs. Schmidt is the ultimate positive, rainbowed soul and I'm really lucky to call her a friend. Some days it's for a soul upliftment, and some days it's...

Get Messy | Gold, Floral, and German

Three of my favourite things. I bought a new blade and mat for my Silhouette, as well as some gold foil, and it is as though the heavens themselves opened up. I was creating until 3am last night. It's seven in the morning now so that should give you a bit of insight...

Get Messy | Raw

Since I've been waking up at 04.30 to create, I've been able to reach my core feelings. Without all the consumption that happens during a regular day, I'm able to produce in a very raw way. It was my mom's first visit back at the oncologist after finishing radiation....

Radical Self Love Bible | 02

I'm still loving this project. I'm getting more personal, and writing a lot more in my Radical Self Love Bible. Journaling in more words than a 3x4" card fits is strange to me but I like where it's going. Have you started yours yet? (happy birthday, husband!) (for...

Radical Self Love Bible

One of my least favourite parts about depression is the way it hits you right in the heart. It turns you from a stable human to a broken mess. You aren't you, and it hurts to put the pieces back together. This time it shot me in the self-confidence part. If I...

Get Messy | Quite a Mess

My pages this week are rather moody and I'm not sure why. I used even less stuff than last week. See that angst? You'd swear these pages were from my teenage journals. I started making the lovely calming "just breathe" page, then writing those tiny words pissed me off...
