A Visual Guide to Project Life

Over the next few weeks I have nine beautiful and uniquely talented artists sharing a visual guide to her favourite way to get creative. No words allowed as answers, just photos and images. If you'd like to go through the Visual Guide archives, they're all grouped together under Guest Post Loveliness.

Today Kelsey is sharing about my personal first love, Project Life.

Project Life :: The Best Ever

I'm still powering on with Project Life 2015. I haven't "fallen behind" once this year. With this small size it's almost impossible.

Caylee Grey Project Life

I prepared my week in the life pockets before the time, and just slipped one photo per day into the pockets. I also put a "just for prettiness" collage between them. For prettiness.

I updated my Kathleen, Lauren and Terrell spread with a more appropriate collection - Dear Lizzy's Documentary. I still can't believe I got to meet these beauties.

And then... I started on my fourth and final album for this year. Wooooohoooo.

Project Life is an awesome, easy way of memory keeping and remembering the small things that make up life. All you need is photos and something to put it in. I just like to get fancy. This is my third year and it still excites me. I've blogged spreads for 2008-20132013, 2014, and 2015 (or you can see them at a glance in the galleries: 2008-20132013, 2014, 2015). I share my pages on Instagram too (#cgpl2015).

Project Life :: What Matters Most

Yay! The Gossamer Blue September kits are live. This was the quickest that I've ever worked through an entire kit before.

Caylee Grey Project Life

I didn't like the way the alphas looked in the top left corner of that spread, so I took them off, stopped caring that the backing stuck to the photo, and stuck it down in the place I wanted them to be.

Caylee Grey Project Life

Griffin used to go to a fancy ass parlour for his washes and cuts, but since we're in a new country and don't know a great dog hairdresser, we are currently the parlour. Hello, stark white dog, I've missed you.

Caylee Grey Project Life

Favourite photo. EVER. Currently my computer and phone background, which says a lot cause I never make photos my background.

Caylee Grey Project Life

There have been a lot of memories lately without photographs. I made a grid with the 2x2" pockets page to record them, and kept the look consistent with my favourite stamp ever, my date stamp. That punched wooden SMILE embellishment? I had been seeing Paige use that technique a lot in her traditional scrap pages and tried putting different patterned paper underneath. I love the look. I might even try it with a full 12x12 page. Maybe.

This spread has a pretty good representation of German life: Fests, Bier, Griffin, walks, forests, ice cream to cool down crazy heat at 22.00.

Project Life :: Love // Breakfast

I'm onto album three for the year, and using one Becky Higgins 6x8" for three months seems to be working for me. I'm not sure how the embellishment-heavy 6x8ers are doing. I'd imagine an album a month, which doesn't quite seem okay to me. About half way into 6x8 I realised that I wouldn't be doing another year at this size. I'm still enjoying it, but I don't think I would for another year. I am however loving what my month dividers are looking like when they've got some paper friends around them. 6x8" really does rock big photos like it's nobody's business.

Caylee Grey Project Life

This is my third year making an X at X list. This year it's 27 at 27. I've had almost 100% success rate, and it's less of a bucket list and more of a "my priorities at this age currently look like this" list. Right now, it looks like my life is full of disgusting German heat, quality over quantity friends, Griffin, German admin, and German breakfast.

Caylee Grey Project Life

That ridiculous photo of breakfast you see there? Yeah. For four people. We each received our own bucket of bread that came along with a bag to take leftovers home. There were six bread rolls in each. SIX! And the worst part was that every single one was delicious. It used to be that my carb of choice was pasta, but congratulations Germany because you've made it bread.

Caylee Grey Project Life

Griffin's the only one enjoying the heat. He pretends to get too hot to walk and I end up carrying him. You can see how excited he is about that, and I've purposely cropped out the bit where I am not excited about looking like the person who carries her toy dog around like an idiot.

Caylee Grey Project Life

These kits went perfectly with the current mood. I'm quite happy about that. If you haven't yet checked it out, my Project Life galleries are totally up to date. Organisational success, I'd say.

Project Life :: Hooray (and Using a Metal Die as an Embellishment)

So here's the thing. I have a Silhouette Portrait. I do not have need for a manual machine. So when I see a really gorgeous large metal ampersand, I assume it's a really gorgeous, high quality embellishment. I don't even consider that it's a metal die. I still don't even know if that's what it's actually called.

Either way.

I gave it special embellishment status and put it directly between the album rings. So I'm not being completely ridiculous. Spoiler: I really, really love it.

Caylee Grey :: Project Life Caylee Grey :: Project Life

Oh yeah, and I added some watercolour to this gorgeous piece of lacey florally paper and stuck it in.

Project Life :: Hip Hip Hooray

I always find it difficult to record a big trip in Project Life. I want it in the album, but since I'm also usually printing a photo book or making a million mini books with the photos I get a bit over them. And so I kept these weeks simple. I chose very few photos and gave a big overview. No details.

Project Life :: Quick and Easy Month Dividers

I've started my third Project Life album for the year. 6x8" is a bit kak when it comes to how quickly one fills up an album. The advantage of that, though, is that you're able to change it up reasonably often while still maintaining consistency. Example: with the monthly divider pages. For this album, I knew exactly what I'd be using as soon as I received the plastic papers. They are sturdy, minimalist, and gorgeous.

Caylee Grey :: Project Life :: Quick and Easy Month Dividers

I cut them the same size as the page protector (not 6x8", it was around 6.9 x 8.2", but don't take my word for it). Punched two fat holes in them with absolute brute strength (plastic is thick, yo). Stamped onto a label sticker, and attached. Nice and simple.

It's fun looking back only two weeks ago to when I could wear a jersey. Germany is currently going through the most extreme heat wave I've ever been a part of. And this is coming from an African! Griffin and I were promised snow. Up your game, Deutschland. Or rather, lower it. Lower it way down with the celcius.

These pages were made with the July Gossamer Blue kits. You can see what the rest of the team made for Project Life in the gallery. My favourite is definitely Felicitas' spread.

I'll be back officially from my hiatus tomorrow. Excited to share all about that with you.

I'm still only my hiatus, but I'm popping in because I couldn't miss out on joining Gossamer Blue for the last blog hop with the 2014/2015 team. I'm excited to be renewing my contract with them, and if the fact that I made EIGHT Project Life spreads with the June kits should show you how much I love playing with those kits.
