Messians! Check the community because we've starte Messians! Check the community because we've started an ARTIST BOOKCLUB.

We're reading a book together, and then we're turning it into art.

Our first book is Feel Something, Make Something by @caitlinhasfeels. I've already told everyone I know to grab a copy, and now we're doing it for @getmessyartjournal.

You have to sign up with a declaration of your commitment by the end of the month. To join in, it’s required to read the book AND make art from it. No pressure, just a more-than-zero amount.

Thank you so much to @janet.joehlin who makes all the badges for the Get Messy clubs.
And through it all… life is still beautiful. And through it all… life is still beautiful.
(TW) This week’s zine is ugly. It’s an ugly to (TW) This week’s zine is ugly. It’s an ugly topic (suicide). It’s not pretty art. The words are not pretty or fine tuned or articulate or even particularly kind. I didn’t even feel better after typing them up. I’m choosing not to share the whole zine, though I’d like you to know that you can make landscape zines too.

Today grief is active and tangible and lumpy. Today is one month and four days since one of my best friends died by suicide. Today is part of suicide prevention month.

I have been quite annoyed at the well-meaning typography on pastel backgrounds on social media - “check in on your friends”. Rachael was very well checked in on. In a hospital. Loved and cared for. I don’t know what the narrative *should* be or what the pretty pink backgrounds *should* say. I just know it needs to be more. More than this. Suicide doesn’t happen because people are not checked in on.

You are loved, you are loving, you are loveable.

(Zine made as part of the #alphabetsuperset challenge, which is inadvertently helping process my grief through art. @megjournals and I are doing a zine a week and you’re welcome to join - no grief required)
