I bound my journal! I cut up this gorgeous Hobonic I bound my journal! I cut up this gorgeous Hobonichi Weeks (loved the cover, didn’t love the insides). Cut up three Travelers Notebook inserts (extra thin, kraft, and watercolour). Put them back together. Added a magazine page of pure South African delight. 

I used gel matte medium to add one of my favourite pieces of ephemera ever found (a handwritten letter to “my dear banana” that I found in South Africa). And I didn’t hate it. 

Taking this on our trip. Low pressure. Adding ephemera. Doodles. Writing.
Day two of wrapping my creating with cheese. I’v Day two of wrapping my creating with cheese. I’ve cut apart my floral Hobonichi and am replacing it with my own paper. I managed to do the cover and inside, and collect paper for binding. 

Bookbinding is a good way for me to return to my art, return to self. It’s a harmony of my right and left brain, and my left brain is LOUD during these downtimes. 

I’ve had a lot of really good, practical ways to come back to art in a low pressure way. For when you want to be kind to yourself but you also really want to actually make art. 

Move paper around. Scream. Go for a walk. Try something totally different. Invite a friend. Those are some of my favourites and I know I’m forgetting a few.
I shared in my stories about my current creative f I shared in my stories about my current creative feelings. I’m all dried up. I’m feeling so much resistance to making art. So much resistance to creating.

It doesn’t mean I don’t desperately want to, though. I waaaaant to but my ass is not going where my heart wants it to be. 

And so I forced myself. I don’t usually agree with this method but I needed it. 

And in the same way you wrap your dogs medication in some cheese, I stood at my desk knowing I only had 15 minutes and I managed to cut up this half-used Hobonichi to prep it for a travel journal. Tomorrow I’ll force another 15 minutes. I’ll wrap up my creating in some cheese and trick myself to do what I really, really wanna do.
